Engineering
Traditionally engineering businesses were associated with the weaving industry, developing engines and looms, but as the weaving industry declined some of the businesses, including Thomas Ashworth and Company and Lupton and Place Limited, diversified and continued to operate. During and after WW2 new companies have emerged such as the Lucas Group of companies who came to Burnley to escape bombing in the Midlands. Local companies like Burnley Engineering Products and Turkington's Ltd were also formed. More recently new hi-tech businesses such as AMS who design specialised equipment for the music industry have been created.
