All-Star Launching For Angels

Burnley's newest nightspot, Angels, was officially opened by the Mayor of Burnley, Councillor Edward Hanson, at a civic reception at the club on Wednesday, 19th June 1974. And the night was a complete success. Said manager Mr Malcolm Metcalfe; "Everybody who came really enjoyed themselves. The fact that even older people stayed on to the end was very encouraging. Basically the civic opening was a normal night in every respect, and it went very well."

About 300 people attended the VIP champagne reception, including the Mayor, civic dignitaries and officials, and some members of Burnley Football Club. They were entertained for part of the evening by the Sweet Sensations, the first week's resident group. Last night (Thursday 20th) was the public opening of Angels and the special attraction were Pan's People, the girl dancers from television's "Top of the Pops".
