Four hundred boys bearing torches gave an impressive display as they marched through the streets of Burnley on Saturday 13th November 1972. They were members of the Burnley Battalion of the Boys Brigade celebrating the brigade's 25th anniversary, and were dressed as tramps. Despite bad weather, many people turned out to watch the procession, which began at Hammerton Street car park, and included members from outlying areas as far afield as Rossendale and Barnoldswick.

A bonfire at Healey Wood provided the end point for the march, and the boys were addressed by Miss Olive Lamb, Burnley Youth Organiser, and Mr W. H. Wharton, Scout Commissioner for Burnley and vice-president of the Burnley Boys' Brigade. Messages of congratulation from mayors in the area were also read. The boys were led in a sing-song by Mr H. Wilkinson, president of the Burnley Battalion. A film show and barbecue were also held.
