The fire brigade arrive on the scene to help the hard-pressed workers to clear the floods.
Heavy rain caused floods in Cliviger yesterday, Monday 11th February 1974, and some homes were awash as the front rooms suddenly changed into rivers. The build-up of water was caused by the drains not being big enough to carry the extra water from a stream which runs from the back of the houses and under the road. The police were called to control the traffic through the flooded road and work began on clearing the drains. In the meantime the barricades went up and occupants desperately tried to keep the water out.
Flooding didn't bother Mr George Catlow, instead he was quite pleased when he found an impressive waterfall on his land, in Copy Wood, off Glen View Road. The water was cascading into a gulley which Mr Catlow described as "normally just a trickle."
