Members of Burnley Junior Civic Trust waged war on the dumping of derelict cars in the town when they organised a procession on Saturday 28th June. It was arranged as a mock funeral procession. Five derelict cars were mounted on lorries, and members of the trust wore funeral attire. The procession wound through the town from Skipper's garage in Calder Vale Road to Harle Syke. The Trust's chairman, Mr. James Myers, said yesterday "It was a very successful event indeed. It made quite an impression". He thought that the procession would help to discourage dumping old cars. Mr Myers said that they had made people aware of the unsightliness of derelict cars and how dangerous they could be, particularly to children. In the past, the trust have held events on various aspects in connection with anti-litter week.
