Good Play Opens Players' Season

A tense scene from the play "Suspect" presented by the Methodist Players.

From a review by Norman Powell:
Burnley Methodist Players chose a good play with which to open their season at the Central Methodist Church on Wednesday evening, the 14th November 1973. "Suspect" by Edward Percy and Reginald Denham, is a well-constructed play and producer, John Nutter, making his debut in this capacity, paced the action well, maintaining the suspense right to the final curtain.

"Suspect" is concerned with an over possessive mother, Mrs Smith (Enid Balson), who is not very happy about her son's (Alan Barber) proposed marriage to Janet (Marjorie Dutton). A newspaper magnate (Lawrence Herbert), is a guest at the house along with his wife (Freda Argyle). Other parts were played by Vanda Bulcock (Scots maid), Norman Tranmer (the doctor) and John Nutter (the parson).
