The winning trio, Mr Whittaker, Jonathon and the Morris Cowley. Mrs Whittaker and baby Julia for once take a back seat.
Simonstone production engineer 38-year-old Mr Gordon Whittaker, his young son, Jonathon, and their vintage Morris Cowley car have proved a winning combination. Together they drove to victory in the road section of the annual Preston to Morecambe Carnival run - and nine-year-old Jonathon navigated the entire route. Not content with topping one section, father and son went on to gain third place out of 43 entries for the best overall performance. The two arrived back home at Haugh Avenue, Simonstone, on Sunday, with rosettes and two winning tankards to show Mrs Whittaker and seven-month-old Julia.
The car, a 1923 model, has clocked more than 100,000 miles, completed some 100 runs and rallies and has been on show at many fetes and charity events. Mr Whittaker, who bought the vehicle just 10 years ago, worked for two years during his spare time to restore it to pristine condition. The Preston to Morecambe 10th annual carnival run for veteran and vintage cars was organised by Morecambe and Heysham carnival committee and Preston and District Vintage Car Club. The 62-mile route takes competitors through villages and winding country lanes. Mr Whittaker and Jonathon are now preparing for another rally this weekend at Burtonwood.
