Towneley Gatehouse as seen from the park, with the arch on the right.

Three years after being threatened with demolition, Towneley Hall gatehouse is now the beautiful home of Mr and Mrs Jeff Boothman. When Jeff bought the house about two years ago, all that had been left standing were four walls. The building was without a roof or a ground floor ceiling, and the two large arch windows at either end of the house were bricked up. Over an eight-month period, Jeff, helped by a few friends, has completely rebuilt the interior and replaced the two arched windows while leaving the exterior structurally unaltered. Not only is the exterior unaltered, but Jeff has succeeded in recreating the interior in the style of the period when the gatehouse was built.

Mr Ken Spencer, secretary of the Burnley Civic Trust said he was pleased about what had been done at the gatehouse and that it was very gratifying to know that the building has been restored and he congratulated the owners on the work they had done.
