New look for Burnley Wood

Ready to advise and help left to right Roksana Fennell and Jane Shearman.
It was open house at Forest Street this week when Bradford and Northern Housing Association opened the doors of a newly renovated property and invited the public in to have a look. The associate in conjunction with Burnley Borough Council have improved No. 16 Forest Street among many other houses in the area for rent with the aid of a Government Grant. A non profit making organisation Bradford and Northern says it aims to provide good standard homes to people in need of housing at a fair price. Council representative Jane Shearman, a planning assistant in the Planning and Development Services department was on hand to discuss any queries and Bradford and Northern’s estate manager Roksana Fennell, showed prospective clients around the end of terrace house which includes a fitted kitchen and spacious rooms. They are currently refurbishing 54 council houses on Stoops Estate which are intended for first time buyers and flats for the elderly are being built again on a cleared site central to the estate. Another property in Rectory Road is being worked on at present. The Forest Street property part of which was a shop, cost £16,017 to renovate and is now ready for moving into. The association ensures that the character and requirements of the area are reflected in policy making. Regional manager Mr. David Barrow said the work was carried out by independent contractors from an approved panel so the workmanship was maintained at the same standard. There are two more properties in the area which will be refurbished within the next few months. Said Mr. Barrow: “We have also put in a bid to the housing corporation for an allocation of finance to refurbish other properties. About 50 per cent of all tenants are nominated by the local authority and are those in housing need with limited alternatives.” Mr. Barrow said the association worked in partnership with the local authority.
