Burnley Rotoract Club which has raised about £250 to help "worthy causes" since it was formed enjoyed its first annual charter dinner at the Moorcock Hotel Waddington, on Friday, 1st November 1974. The toast to the club was proposed by Rotarian Geoffrey Cannon, representing the Rotary Club of Burnley, which sponsored the new club for young people interested in giving social service; who wished them well.
Responding, the president, Mr Peter Haworth, thanked everyone who had helped in the formation of the club. In addition to several projects already completed, he said, they had raised £250 which had enabled them to take pensioners for a trip to Blackpool, deprived young people on a weekend in the Lake District, and for other deprived people they planned a bonfire night party in Burnley. The versatility of Rotoract members was demonstrated by the provision of the disco for dancing by club members Mr Philip Clucat and Mr Neil Fewster.
