Pensioners queue for their money at the Head Post Office.
Most local pensioners and people drawing social security benefit will get increases this week - thanks partly to local social security staff who launched a massive effort to get the money through on time. A spokesman at Brun House local offices of the Department of Health and Social Security has appealed for people who do not get their increase this week to be patient - the rise will be through soon and will be back-dated.
Most pensioners were well satisfied when they collected their extra pension money yesterday. The new increases mean that a single person now receives £10, an increase of £2.25, and a married couple £18, an increase of £3.50. But many pensioners thought that the increase was still not enough.
