The "bees" that were out in force in Burnley town centre on Saturday afternoon, 5th October 1974, managed to raise £230 by "stinging" shoppers for money for charity. The "buzz" collection was organised by Burnley Round Table to complete a fund, launched last November, to raise £7,000 for a minibus for transporting special needs people to and from Temple Street Recreation centre. Tablers now have only about £270 to find to pay for the bus. But we will have to raise it pretty quickly because the bus is almost complete, and if we don't buy it now the price may go up," said chairman Mr Mike West.

Saturday's collection was centred round the Market Square where wooden cut-out bees were placed to remind shoppers of the collection. A vintage car decorated with bees toured the town. Mr West added, "We are very pleased with the response Burnley people were very generous."
