From a Burnley Express Advertising Feature:
Burnley's newest nightspot, "Angels" which has it champagne opening night next Thursday, 20th June 1974, promises visitors a unique experience. Angels is the super-scene for the Over 20's, and it is different. Sophisticated planning with good taste and originality add up to the newest place around for dining and dancing, which is not a disco or a cabaret club, but an exciting combination of both. It is right in the town centre, on the bottom two floors of the seven storey Curzon Street car stack, so there are no parking problems for motorists. Step into Angels any night of the week from Monday to Saturday and you will find a friendly atmosphere with an equally friendly staff specially trained to be efficient and enthusiastic. From the bar and catering staff to the club's "band of Angels" the 20 attractive waitresses in micro mini yellow outfits and high heeled sandals.
Angels has two floors but guests at tables in the restaurant on the upper floor have a panoramic view of the dancing area in front of the stage where there will be live groups every night, as well as disco music, making non-stop music all night. There will be two cabaret spots every night, with "middle of the road" recording groups, starting next week with "Sweet Sensations," and other bookings include "The Merseybeats," "Bitter Sweet," and John O'Hara and the "Playboys". The DJ will take over with disco music when the cabaret is finished. The brewers are J.W. Lees of Middleton, who specialise in a tasty brew made under the expert eye of head brewer Mr Peter Cole, a familiar face in this area for he was head brewer at Masseys in Burnley for seven years.
The men behind the smooth running of Angels are General manager Malcolm Metcalfe, Deputy general manager Cary Thornton and head chef Roger Knowles.
