At a preliminary to Burnley CC's Evening of Cricket at the Keirby Hotel yesterday Geoff Boycott met members of the players committee and handed over a film. With him examining it are Don Ormerod, Gordon Allison, John Cook and Roland Harrison, the club captain.
"I refuse to discuss the Tests in Australia," said Geoff Boycott - the Yorkshire county cricketer who declined a Test place - at the Keirby Hotel before the start of the Burnley Cricket Club's "Evening of Cricket" last night, 30th January 1975. He did say in reply to his opinion of the one-day game: "Obviously it had had an affect on the counties. It has caused deterioration in the counties playing standards. Brian Close told them it would and he was accused of being anti one day cricket. You can give an honest opinion for the benefit of the game but at the same time continue to do best. The authorities did not make use of the shrewd people in the game. It is easy to make derogatory comment. Far-sighted people are those who help the game with constructive comment. I put Brian Close and Trevor Bailey in this category".
He said he was delighted with his benefit year. "People have been fabulous. I received contributions from all over the country and Scotland, Ireland and Wales - even from Lancashire" he said with a smile.
