Stoneyholme's Jack Pollard won the Tuesday Bowling League's Foulds cup at Ightenhill to complete a remarkable trio of triumphs. He had won the Express aggregate medal for the Foden League and was joint winner of the similar award for the Tuesday League with Bob Woods senior.
His Tuesday opponent was Horace Veevers (Barden) who had won the semi-final against Ken Hargreaves (Stoneyholme) 21 - 16 while Pollard had defeated Charlie Dean (Scott Park) 21 - 17. In the final Veevers failed with some of his leads and fell behind at 12 - 9, Pollard increased his advantage to 18 - 11 and although Veevers won the next end and counted both woods, Pollard, helped by successful strikes, won by 21 - 13.
Mr. Harold Whitaker presented the championship cup to Stoneyholme and in presenting the aggregate awards, Mr. Ernest Leah, general manager of the Burnley Express said that as both Mr. Pollard and Mr. Woods had the same total points having dropped only five each all season, each was receiving a medal. Mr. E. Baker, league chairman presided and thanked the Ightenhill club for being hosts and the greensman on the excellence of the playing area.
