Three up-and-coming young artists, who were the focus of attention in the Burnley Express Offices on Monday, were presented with prizes by Mr. Andrew Adam, artist visualiser for the classified advertising department. The youngsters, all boys under the age of eleven, were in the line-up of prize winners in a recent Burnley Express painting competition which attracted more than sixty entries. This, the newspaper's first-ever painting competition was judged by Mr. E. Leah (General Manager of the Burnley Express), Mr. N. Bray (Sales Manager for the Want-Ad department) and Mr. Adam. Outright winner was Alan Ibbotson (11) only son of Mr. & Mrs. C. Ibbotson, 75 Church Street, Burnley who told us "Painting is my favourite lesson in St. Peter's School". He received a handsome box of paints, while runners-up Michael Reed (8) 29 Berry Street, Burnley and David Robinson (10) of 30 Hinton Street, received consolation prizes of specially packed crayons. Selected entrants, Lesley Dann (11) of 94 Waterbarn Street and Martin Smith (7) of 22 Athletic Street, received letters of commendation from the Burnley Express.
