Burnley's knocker-up Mr Jim Osborne, has retired after 44 years and his two knocking-up poles have been given to the Towneley Hall Society - for display in the craft museum the society will be giving to the town.
Mr Osborne was a field ambulance man during the 1914-18 war and he often played his concertina to the men in the line to cheer them up.
Mr Osborne's round included the Park, Bridge Street and Bank Parade areas, but when he retired there were only eight houses left in his round.
