Members of the Libraries and Arts Committee with the mayor, Mr. Schofield and officials at the presentation.
Former Secretary of the Burnley and District Civic Trust, Mr. Harry Schofield, paid a return visit to Burnley on Monday night to make a presentation of new stage curtains to the Central Library. This was the second presentation Mr. Schofield has made to the library. Before he left the town he presented his grand piano and on that occasion he noticed that it was time the stage curtains were renewed. So there and then he said "I'll replace them". The mayor (Ald. J. E. Parkinson) received the curtains on behalf of the town and also present were members of the Libraries and Arts Committee.
Said the mayor "Mr. Schofield has been a wonderful man for Burnley he has always tried to look towards the beautification of our County Borough. Thousands of people will look at these curtains and I hope some of them will remember the man who gave them".
Mr. Schofield was also thanked by Ald. Miss. Ada Proctor, Chairman of the Libraries and Arts Committee. Afterwards Mr. Schofield told the Committee "I hope these curtains will mark some little return for the happiness I have received here. These curtains are gold coloured and made by the local firm of Ingham and Lee Heasandford Limited. They were made up and fitted by J. H. Hesketh of Burnley". Representatives of both firms were present at the presentation.
