A glamorous line-up of Miss Prestige entries at Burnley’s Locarno Ballroom on Friday night with the winner, Mrs Carole Morris, in the centre. On either side of her are the second and third prize winners, Miss Kathleen O’Hara (left) and Mrs Joan Robinson (right). More than 1000 people danced till after midnight on Friday when the sports and social club of the Burnley Prestige Group held their annual event at the Locarno Ballroom. The highlight of the night was the Miss Prestige competition in which last year’s winner, Mrs Carole Morris, triumphed again. A 24-year-old brunette, she is secretary to the training officer, Mr A Gunton. Mr J M Kenyon (director) was on the adjudication panel together with Mr K Fort and Miss Sheila Sourbutts presented the winner with a sash and £5 prize and brush set.
Other presentations included that of the L W Smith bowling handicap, an annual competition won by Mr P Black who retired in February from the security department. Runner-up was Mr V Sly (foreman of the mini-mop department) The presentations were made by Mr Harold Horner. The following were presented with watches to mark 25 years’ service with the firm. Mrs Mona Boddy, Mr Henry Cottam, Mr Wilfred Cartmell. Mr James Atkinson was unable to attend to receive his watch.
