Burnley's Lancashire and Cheshire League A Division team, which is the youngest in the competition, lost their Wilmott Cup second round match to Manchester at the Table Tennis centre on Wednesday 1st December 1965 by 5-2. The visitors, who included internationals Benny Casopsky and Jeff Ingber and Lancashire's Kevin Forshaw, had too much experience for the young Burnley side whose winners were J. Keogh and D. Hodgson. B. Marsden lost narrowly to Ingber and Casopsky. Hodgson lost his first set against Casopsky 21-18 but won the next two 21-11, 21-11. Ingber took the first against Keogh 21-11, and then the Burnley captain found his form and the result was a thrilling two sets which the home player won 23-21, 22-20.
