Presentation To Archer Lee

A happy group at the presentation with Mr. Weir congratulating Archer Lee who has received his retirement gift from sports club colleagues.
Former colleagues of Albion Rovers FC joined with members of Hapton Valley Sports Club in attending a presentation to local sportsman Archer Lee on Tuesday 23rd June 1970 at the Alma Inn, Padiham, of which he is licensee. Mr. Lee, who concludes his employment at Hapton Valley this week, had been a sports club committee man since 1951 and president for the past eight years. He has represented the colliery at football, cricket and swimming and won his first medal in 1945 boxing for the Parachute Regiment as a featherweight.
Mr. Lee played for Albion Rovers when they were the outstanding amateur side in the Burnley area and his brother John was team manager and secretary. He helped to organise the old Yatefield F.C. and captained the team for a season.
The presentation of a wall clock was made by Mr. A. Weir, manager of Hapton Valley colliery. Accompanying is a plaque which is inscribed "In appreciation of his services to Hapton Valley Sports Club 1951- 1970."
