Neighbouring Church Lends Chairs

The church of St. Alban-with-St. Paul's on the Brunshaw Estate, was so full on Sunday morning, the 30th August 1970, that chairs had to be borrowed from nearby Brunshaw Methodist Church. The Vicar of St. Alban's, the Rev. E. A. Smith, said: "We had about 150 people packing the church. We have had to borrow chairs before, but this is the most we have had in the church for some time."
On Saturday there was a fete, run by the various organisations of the church. There were various stalls, including black pudding and white elephant stalls. There were also many side shows and a pony ride which helped to give the atmosphere of all the fun of the fair.
Mr. Smith said that the fete is expected to have raised about £50. Last week there was a house-to-house collection in the district, which raised £60. All the money is for church funds.
