The eighth annual gala of Padiham Swimming Club was held at Padiham Pool on Saturday, the 17th October 1970, the first time the club has been able to stage its gala in the hometown. The chairman of the club told people attending the gala: "Some years ago officials, competitors and many spectators braved inclement weather and travelled rather ashamedly to Burnley for the first annual gala of the club, but now we are proud to hold the gala in our own, luxurious "home waters."

The cup for the best boy swimmer was won by I. Shiach, and best girl's trophy was won by D. Reynard. D. Reynard won the girl's diving cup jointly with G. Hampshire, while the boy's diving cup was presented to I. Shiach.
