The site upon which the new Health Centre will be built.

Plans are now complete for a comprehensive "health centre" for Burnley - at a cost estimated in the region of £150,000 for the building alone. Next move, an official of the local authority has told the Burnley Express, is to put the contract out to tender. It is anticipated that the centre, which will provide facilities in one modern building for all local health authority services, along with services covering school and child health and general practitioner, will be ready for occupation some time next year. Concentrating a multitude of services under one ultra-modern roof, the centre is to be established on a now semi-derelict site on Saunder Bank at the rear of Chaddesley House.

Councillor B. Rourke (chairman of Burnley's Personal Services Group) said that the centre would eventually have "satellite" clinics in other parts of the town. Dr L. J. Collins, the town's Medical Officer of Health, was enthusiastic about the project and said he looked upon the development as a major step forward in the town's preventive and curative medicine. The new centre has been designed in the offices of the Borough Engineer and Surveyor (Mr. E. C. Ashby) under the direction of the Deputy Borough Architect (Mr. F.Staziker).
