The Chairman of Padiham Urban Council, Councillor Mrs. Sheila Maw, becomes an unofficial fifth member of the J's during a last minute rehearsal, while 19-year-old Sheila Smith collects the autographs of the group. The group is, left to right, Peter Halstead, John Mitchell, John Morris and Bryan Simon.
A variety concert attracted about 350 people to Padiham Town Hall and about £40 was raised for the chairman's charity fund. The show was compered by Mark King, and the accompanists were Pat Killion and Kathy Parfitt. The event was organised by Councillor Brian Shirtcliffe.
The artists were June Hird, who sang hits from the shows; ballad singer Ray Cunningham; Jim Murray, who has appeared on BBC radio and was an award winner at the 1966 Carlsberg Festival; comedian Joe Clark; mime artist Brian Burton; local pop group the J's and clarinetist Eric Walmsley, a former member of the Steve Race Orchestra.
