The theme of the fantastic musical play the Arcadians staged in the open air at Towneley this week is truth. Only the truth in this case is stated in simple terms– A superb production with all the ingredients that go to make up an extra special show, wonderful singing, gorgeous costumes: gentle humour and a number of brilliant solo performances all blended together with the producer's special skill into a glorious riot of colour and movement. The further truth is that the town should be especially proud of our local artists and the splendid backup team who have made this spectacular production possible. Staged under the auspices of the Burnley Arts Council Silver Jubilee committee, the show has a cast of more than 90. The broad green lawn at Towneley provided Producer Hilda Basnett with ample scope for movement which she used to great effect and imagination. The boats on the lake during the whole, the immaculate figures strolling across the lawns in front of the hall during the race course scene, deft touches which showed the producer's flair for using the natural background to heighten the scene.
