Susan Robinson, showing a fine, black, heavyweight, third prizewinning bullock belonging to Longsyke Farm, Manchester Road, Burnley. Although Government restrictions governng fowl pest put paid to any hopes of staging a cage bird section, classes in the cattle section proved a great attraction, with some lovely beefstock on view.

From an article by Sheila McLennon and John Walton:
Turnstiles clicked merrily to the tune of more than £1,000 on the Prairie Field over the weekend, 5th and 6th June 1971, as 9,000 people braved cold winds and an overcast sky to attend Burnley Agricultural Society's 31st annual show. Although gate numbers and receipts were slightly down from the previous year this was balanced by a dramatic increase in the number of membership subscriptions. President of the show Mr. W. H. G. Newton said: "I think the show has been excellent in every respect", and Mr. J. E. Mitson, chairman for the past two years and at 30 one of the youngest to hold the office said: "I think the response from the public has been very encouraging in view of the weather."

Mr. Phillip Collinge took time out from running his fish and chip shop in Burnham Gate to win five prizes in the rabbit section, ably assisted by his 12-year-old son Michael who owns the 80 rabbits they keep on Clifton allotments. Local collies fared well in the sheepdog trials, Bob Moore of Bradget Hey farm Cliviger winning the novice championship with his little black and white Bute. The article gives a full list of results for the following wide range of sections: Light Horse, Stud mare, Jumping, Heavy Horse, Canine, Sheep, Rabbit, Cattle, Arts and Crafts, and Children.
