Burnley's new multi-storey car stack, St. Peter's at Church Street, should be completed and ready for use by Christmas. It caters for up to 530 motorists. The work was originally held up for several months, after a collapse of the culvert in the River Brun, throwing the contractors, British Lift Slab, behind schedule. The car stack, complete with underpass leading from Church Street, is similar to the Curzon Street stack. Burnley's Borough Surveyor, Mr. E. C. Ashby, said that most of the structure is pre-fabricated then built up in section from ground level. This is why the final stages are quickly erected.

Mr. Ashby said: "Originally, the contractors had trouble after the culvert over the river collapsed. That was about 12 months ago, and, obviously, put work behind schedule. I think everything is proceeding all right now, and the job should be completed by Christmas".
