All out, the Burnley fielders successfully appeal for a catch at the wicket by Gordon Allison, off David Binns, to end the Lowerhouse innings, and bring the wicket haul of professional Grey Hayes to 8 for 40.

A keenly anticipated derby turned into an anti-climax as Burnley beat Lowerhouse by eight wickets at Turf Moor, with Lowerhouse failing to provide the kind of challenge their league position promised.
From the moment they lost leading batsman Brian Higgin in the first over Lowerhouse were struggling. Features of the Burnley performance were an eight wicket haul for professional Greg Hayes, a first Lancashire League Collection for wicket keeper Gordon Allison, and a quick fire knock of 43 by Mick McLeod. Put in to bat Lowerhouse were soon in trouble on a lively wicket against the pace of South African Hayes. Four of his victims were snapped up by stumper Allison, and two were edged catches to fielders behind the wicket. It was left to pro Mohinder Amarnath to prevent a total collapse as he grafted for 33 runs in 21 overs whilst at the other end there was a constant procession back to the pavilion. David Keeley was the eighth man out with the score on 79 after an eventful innings. After a lucky let off when Tim Gaynor and Greg Hayes collided going for the same catch, he was given out in a controversial incident. He edged Hayes to Allison but stood his ground until it was confirmed that the ball had carried. A couple of lusty blows from skipper Alan Holden offered Lowerhouse some hope but then Hayes completed his successful stint. Needing two more wickets for a collection, he trapped John Crosby lbw and ended the innings by having David Binns caught at the wicket. In reply needing only 90, Burnley were 29 after three overs, with McLeod scoring 15 off one over from John Crosby and Burnley, after some scares, won in less then half the allotted 34 overs for the loss of 2 wickets.
