The sportsmen of the Railway Hotel, Padiham, celebrated a record year with a buffet and concert at the United Irish League, Padiham, on Thursday, 20th June 1974, when the trophies, prizes and special awards were presented by Don Smith, of the Burnley Express. The club won the amateur Football Combination Division One championship and the division two title, the Burnley Express 1001 Darts Knockout and were winners of the B Division of the Padiham and District Darts League.

An award for maintaining a 100 per cent success record in darts league matches went to Derek Webster, who won 17. Another outstanding feat was achieved by Mick Muldoon, who reached the last eight in the Burnley-Padiham area of the Golden Arrow competition and the last four in the Padiham individual knockout. The football section had three players chosen for the combination eleven which won the Burnley Festival of Sport interleague contest and they received awards - David Beaumont, Malcolm Lane and Alan Hejlak. The success of the various teams was due largely to the enthusiasm of the Railway Hotel licensee Mr Archer Lee, and as a reminder of a wonderful season a salver with a footballer motif was presented to him. Mrs Lucy Lee received a bouquet.
