Fillies Weigh In For Sadie

Mrs Dorothy Martin, of Dryden St., Padiham, weighs in under the careful scrutiny of Mrs Ratcliffe, who aims to help her pupil lose four stone in weight.

Padiham's Railway Hotel, Station Road, looked rather like the weighing-in room at Aintree on Wednesday, when 16 'fillies' tipped the scale there. The object of the exercise was the inauguration of the 'Slim with Sadie' classes, which are already established in Burnley. After heavy demand from women in outlying villages like Hapton and Sabden, Mrs Sadie Ratcliffe, of Marton Drive, Burnley, decided to start classes in Padiham. Mr Archer Lee, landlord of the Railway, kindly stepped in with an offer of premises, and the classes got off to a flying start. "I was very encouraged by the response," said Mrs Ratcliffe.
