Protecting the past

A large variety of buildings in the Burnley area have been put on the government's list of protected buildings and many of them have received a grade 2 because of their great local interest. They range from the National Westminster bank on Grimshaw street to Slater Terrace on the canal bank. The railway viaduct is deemed of great local interest. Slater Terrace is a unique building with houses above a warehouse. The old grammar school receives a grade II. The National Westminster bank is a fine piece of local architecture. The Memorial to Ald Scott is in Scott Park. Cherry Fold farm is preserved from further decay. A Grade II goes to Habergham Lodge on Padiham Road.
