Flags, flowers and cheers greeted Prince Charles when he paid a three-and-a-half hour visit to Calderstones Hospital, Whalley. It was the day the 1,148 patients had been looking forward to four months. Their patience was rewarded on Friday by the way the Prince, still suntanned from his trip to Australia, stopped and chatted, shook hands and showed interest in patients and staff.
The Prince had arrived at Clitheroe station where only four people in wheelchairs had been allowed on the station to meet him. The Royal car brought him from the station and excitement was already running high when he stepped from the car in front of the main building at Calderstones.
