Skegness the place to be. (3 of 8)

Honey-mooning couple Mr. & Mrs. Parsonage admire one of the unusual statues on display at Sandringham.Full report by Brian Feeney. It was headstands, (Mr. Horace Lister - see first image in sequence), honeymoons and happenings all the way for 191 pensioners who went on the Burnley Express-Nelson Leader and Colne Times Series holiday to Skegness. Every year the Burnley Express arranges a senior citizens' holiday in conjunction with its sister papers and Ribble Travel Service. It was the first time "young lovers" Mr. Charles Parsonage and his wife Margaret, had been on one of the newspapers' holidays but they will remember it for years to come. Mr. Parsonage, aged 78, and his wife, who is four years younger, have been married just seven weeks, and the holiday in Skegness was their honeymoon. They married six months after first meeting at the Darby and Joan club at Temple Street Recreation Centre. Mr. Parsonage said "It has been a very enjoyable honeymoon, albeit a late one."
A well organised schedule of day trips ensured that every one was kept active. The party travelled to Skegness through the ancient county town of Lincoln and they visited several other places. Mrs. Cora Dixon liked the windmill with five sails which went round anti clockwise at Alford. After a busy day touring the party returned to their hotels in Skegness and had a night on the town. Mr. Ken Smith, in particular had cause to celebrate, as he turned 75 while on holiday. Mr. Smith was joined by his wife Sarah, and sister in law Mrs. Hilda Heseltine. Mr. and Mrs. John Smith celebrated their wedding anniversary in November, by having a holiday at Sandringham, but they agreed their second visit had given them more pleasure. Fun was had by everyone, however one member of the party nearly didn't make it, Mrs. Rose Rimmer tripped on a paving stone just before the coach was ready to set off, she injured her knees but it was not too serious and she was able to go along. These pensioners have certainly proved you do not need to be young to enjoy yourself.
