A belated Christmas party was held on Friday morning, the 22nd February 1974, at the Empire Bingo Hall, St James's Street, Burnley. More than 270 pensioners attended the party, which was organised by the manager of Empire Bingo, Mr Ken Duxbury and his staff. "We had to postpone the party until now because of staff shortages, but everyone seemed to have a good time and that's what we intended," explained Mr Duxbury.

Entertainment was provided by local cabaret star Mrs Elsie Malone, who sung a number of songs and Mrs Elsie Birtwell who recited several poems. A selection of games was also enjoyed by the guests, who then settled down to a meal and drinks.
