Burnley schools held their first badminton knockout tournament at Ivy Bank School on Saturday. Forty students from six schools took part. During the year the schools have also been playing in a badminton league, and the captains of the winning teams, N. Whitham (St. Theodore’s) and Anne Shackleton (High School) received trophies. These were donated and presented by Mrs. H. Pollard in memory of her late husband. Winners in the knockout competitions were:-
Boy’s singles: D. Roberts (Barden) beat A. Moran (Burnley GS)
Girl’s singles: A. Shackleton (Burnley High school) beat M. Bamford (Walshaw).
Boys’ doubles: D. Roberts and B. Thornton (Barden) beat A. Moran and S. Hargreaves (Burnley GS)
Girls’ doubles; M. Farrer and M. Bamford (Walshaw) beat A. Shackleton and C. Fitton (High School)
