Five Burnley Schools runners were picked for Lancashire as a result of their performance in the county schools’ cross-country championships at Lancaster University. Left to right Lesley Sunderland (High School), Gerard Walgh(High School), Julie Taylor (Walshaw), Raymond Crorken (St,Theodore’s), Debbie Robinson (St. Hilda’s). In addition, the Burnley team gained second place out of 13 teams in the junior girls’ event, the members were Lesley Sunderland, Anna Kostilek (Walshaw), Karen Spencer (Towneley), Jackie Brennand (Towneley) and Marie Preedy (St. Hilda’s). Burnley were third in the intermediate girls’ race, counters were Julie Taylor 3rd, Debbie Robinson, Eileen Moore (St Hilda’s) Angela Horne (High School), Kathryn Whalley (St Hilda’s).
Best boys’ performances were Sean Willoughby (St. Theodore’s), Gerrard Hargreaves, Mark Smith, (Burnley Grammar School), and Rutherford (St. Theodore’s). Burnley were placed fourth for the aggregate points’ trophy.
