Elbow grease and dusters take their "toll" of the dust - Louise, left, and Janice preparing the main room for the opening.
Burnley's canal Toll House has been getting a springclean before it opens its doors to the public for the summer. Two girls from Gawthorpe High School have been visiting the Toll House in order to keep it clean and this week they were giving it special attention.
Among the attractions the Industrial Museum Action Committee hopes to be providing this summer are boat rides through the Weaver's Triangle on April 17th, May 4th and August 31st. IMAC, which runs the Toll House, has also planned a number of exhibitions including a display of hand spinning and weaving techniques.
Making sure that the building is spick and spam in time for these activities were Janice Wilkinson, 15 and Louise Bailey, 16. The girls have been cleaning the two main rooms of the Toll House nearly every week for the past six months as an option from school. After the doors are open again, they said that their visits would be less frequent but that they would occasionally be calling to keep an eye on the dust.
The Toll House will be open Wednesdays and Saturdays between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
