Miss Metcalfe presents Claire Bradley (left) and Kimberley Hutchinson with their awards at Mount Olivet.
The highest award in Guiding - the Queen's Guide Award - has been made to two Burnley girls, Kimberley Hutchinson, 13, of St. Matthew Street and Claire Bradley, 14, of Padiham Road, both members of the Mount Olivet Guide company. They received their awards from the international adviser for the County, Miss E. Metcalfe who co-incidentally is a former Mount Olivet guide. To attain the awards the girls had to earn a variety of badges and carry out at least 4 months' work in the community. Kimberley helped distribute hymn books at Mount Olivet, and Claire did her community work at Gannow community centre. Also present at the award ceremony were Mrs. P. Carter, district commissioner and Mrs. C. Kirkbright, Guider at Mount Olivet. Both girls attend Burnley Girls' High School.
