The trophy winners assembled before the presentations, with Miss Heap and her husband, Mr Ian Sage (right), and Mr and Mrs Johnson and pianist Mrs A. Hibbins (left).
It was the men who stole the show when they danced a ballet scene from "Coppella" at the presentation evening of the Joyce Heap School of Dancing. The dancers were fathers and brothers of students at the dancing school and the ballet was so successful that they decided to give a repeat performance for pensioners at Ebenezer School on Wednesday. The mothers, too, created a sensation, when they gave a version of the Can-can. Other performances were given by the choir of Burnley Girls' High School, under the leadership of music master Mr Peter Walker, and senior students of the dancing school, who introduced the cabaret.
The presentations were made by Mr and Mrs Alec Johnson, principal guests for the evening, which was one of the most successful ever. Music for the general dancing was provided by Mr and Mrs J. Merrin. Money raised at the event will be sent to the mental health organisation and the Espinosa Memorial Fund, which provides a scholarship for the Royal Ballet School.
