One hundred favourite hymns rang out from the recently opened St Theresa's Church in Barracks Road in an unusual fund-raising effort. For nearly four hours, church members, friends, relatives, pupils from St Hilda's RC Girls' High School and past members of St Mary Magdalene's Church joined in the marathon.
The sing-in, organised by Mrs Alice Waddington and members of the newly-formed choir, was all in aid of church funds. Mr Michael Long, St Theresa's organist, played together with a number of colleagues.
The new church amid the motorway excavations was opened in September last year by the Apostolic Delegate, Monsignor Bruno Heim.
