Trip down memory lane

Mrs Greig receives some Royal Worcester dishes from the governors.
Nostalgia can be a noisy affair, especially when about 300 people congregate to delve into the past times of their old school. "There was a lot of chatter and a really good atmosphere," said Mrs M. Greig, headmistress of Burnley High School, which organised an evening of nostalgia last Friday.
The school is closing for the last time on July 2nd to re-open next term as a new amalgamated school with Burnley Grammar School. Old girls and former and present members of staff had the opportunity to reminisce and look at old photos of school groups. Chemistry teacher Mr G. Banks gave a slide show of various school outings over the years and pupils displayed old school uniforms in a fashion show.
During the evening, Mrs Greig received a Royal Worcester casserole dish and oval dish from the school governors. The school choir sang at various intervals during the evening and everyone joined in to sing the school song, which had not been heard for many years. Many old memories were brought back to mind during the evening and Mr Peter Walker, music teacher and conductor of the choir, told about a certificate presented to the school in 1916 for collecting money for Christmas Puddings for the Army. At least one woman present remembered the occasion.
