These Two Have Got Plenty To Smile About

These two young men had plenty to smile about yesterday, 11th March 1971. On the left Ralph Coates looks happy enough about selection for the Football League team to play the Scottish League at Hampden Park, Glasgow, next Wednesday. With him is Kevin Milloy, the 15-year-old Welsh Schools' International centre-forward, who is coming to Turf Moor as an apprentice when he finishes at school later this year.

Coates, 25 next month, is hardly a surprise choice for the Sir Alf Ramsey line-up. He won his first England cap just under a year ago against Northern Ireland at Wembley, and after going to Mexico with England's World Cup party was in the League XI which played the Irish League at Norwich at the start of this season. In all, this will be his fourth appearance for the League and his second at Hampden Park. Last time he played there Frank Casper was also in the team and this time he will line up alongside ex-Claret Brian O'Neil, a former England Under-23 player, who gets a place at inside-left after consistent displays with Southampton. Coates, capped eight times by Sir Alf at Under-23 level, will be in the No. 7 shirt.

Milloy, currently on associate schoolboy forms with the Clarets, comes from Shotton, Flintshire, and attends Aston Senior High School, Deeside.
