Adamson - A Shattering Blow For Us

A desperate clearance by 'Boro goalkeeper Whigham, as Kindon and Merrington (centre) move for a corner.
From a longer report by Keith McNee:
Martin Dobson, Burnley's best and most popular player last season apart from the obvious exception of Ralph Coates, will be out of football for three months after breaking his right leg three minutes before half-time in a useful yet relatively meaningless and unimportant friendly in an Ayresome Park frying pan. The injury (received in a harmless-looking midfield tackle) took much of the life out of what was shaping up as a lively and entertaining affair, despite gruelling conditions and a temperature blistering into the seventies.
Burnley went behind in the third minute when McMordie cleverly carved himself a position from which he steered the ball over the line. It took Burnley less than 60 seconds to draw level and Nulty was the scorer with a precise header from Kindon's cross. In the 23rd Minute Coates paved the way for a second Burnley goal, passing the ball to Kindon - it was intercepted by Middlesbrough's Spragoon who helped the ball past an astonished Whitham, the home keeper.
Mick Docherty took over from Martin Dobson and Burnley remained steady and organised at the back and seemed sure winners of the game but with 11 minutes left they were caught off guard and Maddren made them pay with a scorching right-foot drive that ripped past the helpless Peter Mellor to level the score at 2-2.
