Martin Dobson clips in the Burnley equaliser at Old Trafford.
From a match report by Keith McNee:
After the sad cup defeat to Oxford there had to be changes and Jimmy Adamson brought in Merrington for Nulty, Kindon for West, and Casper for James. The result was a smarter, more confident all-round performance that deserved both points and would have won them but for the fact that referee Ray Johnson just did not see Aston handle the ball before shooting past Tony Walters in the first minute of the second half.
Apart from a spot of vintage Charlton, the first 20 minutes belonged exclusively to Burnley but once more it was the old, familiar story of being unable to translate pressure into goals. Kindon, playing for the first time since his unfortunate hand injury over Christmas could have had a couple of goals in this spell and so could the impressive Thomas. Whenever Coates flashed into the picture the United crowd held their breath and Ralph was certainly as good as his word before the game that he would spare no effort to help the club out of their serious bottom of the table difficulties.
Thomas left Crerand sprawling with a wonderful run down the left which ended with a fast centre which Kindon stabbed only two feet wide. A few minutes later he repeated the trick, except that this time he cut inside to send in a fierce, curling shot which Stepney kept out with an amazing finger-tip save. It was from the resulting corner that the clarets snatched the 74th minute goal they had threatened to score for so long. The Thomas flag-kick from the right was headed on by Colin Waldron and Dobson banged it into the corner left-footed after an attempted clearance by Manchester United's youthful centre-half Paul Edwards.
