A lasting tribute to Burnley’s history was unveiled in the town centre on Saturday. The special sculpture to mark the 700th Market Charter celebrations was created by Bernard Tindall and Elizabeth Westray of Raku Works Sculptural Arts in Clayton le Moors. The project was supported entirely by the Market Charter Steering Group, Burnley Borough Council, Burnley Mechanics, Lancashire County Council, North West Arts Board and NORWEB. Chairman of the market charter steering group Coun. Beryl Barnes said “The sculpture is by the people for the people and represents the coming together of the community”. Members of Read over-50s Mrs. Jean Graham and Mrs. Beryl Tunnacliffe pulled the unveiling ribbon together with 10 year old William Allott representing the Florence Avenue Neighbours Society.
