Astounded at His Success

Local school attendance officer Mr Jimmy Dixon fulfilled one of his top golfing ambitions on Saturday, when he won the Colne Club championship.
He has been playing the game for ten years. He has won most of the honours available at Colne. But the coveted club championship has always escaped him. Until Saturday that is!
No one was more surprised than Mr Dixon himself at the win, "I was astounded," he said later.
For the past three years, Bob Dickinson, possibly the leading Colne golfer, has won the championship. And he was clear favourite to do the trick again this year. But Mr Dixon, playing with assurance, took the award. And he said later, "I am very happy, its a big thrill." An all-rounder at sport, he has had some success in the past at football with Colne Primitives, cricket with Christ Church and also snooker and billiards. Golf is hi first sporting love however and he spends a lot of time at the links.
There was a tie for second place in the competition between Mr Roderick Preston and Mr G Dinsdale.
