Lochhead waits for any slip as a long through ball is gathered. For goodness’ sake, let’s keep things in their right perspective. If you swallow what the moaners and groaners are saying, you could end up believing Burnley deserved to lose the game. You might even be brainwashed into thinking they are already doomed to the Second Division. Some people, it seems, would really like to see a relegation ticket popped through the Turf Moor letterbox. For a variety of reasons, this minority section are sharpening their knives for the kill. How they would enjoy it! What a shame if they were disappointed……
Theories on this game and on the future welfare of the most successful small town football club in post-war history, were flying around like confetti over the weekend. No lack of football talking points in the pubs and clubs now! Despite another mini attendance, by Division One standards at the match itself!
Burnley never appeared to get anywhere near avenging their biggest defeat in 37 years at the Hawthornes, when they were massacred 8-1. But they were much more forceful than West Brom, who, with the exception of the rejuvenated Talbut, and the inspired, confident, cat-like Osborne, seemed to have one eye on the quarter final cup match with Liverpool.
