Stoneyholme juniors rehearsing their music and movement piece for the festival.
From an article by Normal Powell:
"The aim of the schools festival is a simple but important one. To show parents and the general public something of the work that goes on in schools in music and drama, covering the whole age range from infant schools to senior schools." Mr G. B. Hill, Deputy Director of Education, said this to me when I talked to him about the programme for Burnley Schools' Festival. Mr Hill went on to say that it was important to recognise the activities in Burnley schools in this field of education. Activities which gave young people self-confidence and which provided an opportunity for leisure-time pursuits in the future.
As an example of the wide range of activities Ivy Bank seniors will stage an excerpt from Benjamin Britten's "Noah" involving 60 young people. This project has also concerned the art department of the school, which has designed and made the heads of the various animals for the scene with the ark. At the other end of the scale, Stoneyholme juniors are busy rehearsing their item, which will involve music and movement. Twenty-three schools will take part in the festival which starts on March 30th.
