Fixing Up A Winter Holiday In the Sun

Burnley Chamber of Trade's half-yearly meeting went with a swing, and enjoying themselves, from the left, are Mr Crossland, Mr Harrison, Travelplan representatives Miss D. Kinloch and Mrs E. Butterfield, together with guitarists Phillip Moon and Bernard Gregson.

The proposed Burnley Chamber of Trade trip to Majorca was finalised when members met for their first half-yearly meeting this week. The man who helped launch the project, Mr W. D. M. Harrison, made the first reservation for the holiday and he was quickly followed by the president-elect, Mr A. Ingham, who earlier moved the resolution for the five-day holiday in Majorca next January.

A guest at the meeting was Mr D. Crossland, a director of Travelplan, a local travel agency. He offered the chamber a Burnley-back-to-Burnley jet flight holiday at the four star 'Hotel Cid in C'an Pastilla for only £23. During the evening an illustrated talk on the Balearic Islands was given by Mr Crossland, and to create the right atmosphere, flamenco music and Spanish wine were provided. Mr Harrison told members that, the holiday, departing Monday January 17th for five days, was extremely good value and would prove a "nice respite" after the Christmas rush. In the first issue of the Chamber's news-sheet members of the social committee pointed out: "Lest anyone think from a Press report that local shopkeepers are 'making a bomb' and can afford a council meeting in Majorca, this is an idea for a value-for-money winter mini-holiday. It is just something different from a pantomime outing or coach trip to the Lakes."
